Most garden visits are quiet strolls. The Big Day of Bugs turns the York Street grounds into a working science fair built around the insects that keep the gardens alive, and it caps the Gardens’ Pollinator Month each June.
More than 20 community and research partners set up stations on pollinators, native bees and garden ecology, with hands-on activities aimed at kids and families. It runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 26 and is included with general admission, which is timed and best reserved in advance. The Gardens sit on York Street near Cheesman Park, where street parking is limited.
