Compost Heap Fest IX is a folk punk festival that works as a fundraiser. Worm Food Record Collective, the nonprofit behind it since 2016, puts ticket money toward the bands who play and toward the Harm Reduction Action Center and the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition.
Thirty six acts fill three days, 16 of them from the Front Range. Ceschi headlines from Connecticut and Hans Gruber and the Die Hards bring Austin ska punk. Co-organizers Micah Butler, Richard Thomas, and Cody Winters book the weekend around leftist politics more than any one genre.
One $65 ticket covers all three days and there is no day pass. Doors open at 3 PM Friday at 2935 West Seventh Avenue, a volunteer-run all-ages room. Advocacy groups including Housekeys Action Network Denver table on site.
