Trick or treating inside a business district fixes the two things parents dislike about the neighborhood version: it happens in the afternoon and every door is on one street. Littleton runs its version the Sunday before Halloween, with participating Main Street merchants handing out candy to kids in costume.
Downtown Littleton calls it an annual tradition and lists it as free with no registration. Exact hours were not posted on the official calendar as of August 24, and neither was the merchant list, both of which usually firm up as October gets closer.
