Las Cafeteras turn the East Los Angeles tradition of son jarocho into something loud and political, and Levitt Pavilion brings the band to Denver for free as part of its summer series.
The group plays zapateado dance, jarana strings, and bilingual storytelling rooted in Chicano and Afro-Mexican culture. The Ruby Hill show is general admission on the lawn, with music around 6 p.m.
Free tickets are reserved online and popular bills fill the lawn early, so reserve ahead and bring a blanket. Ruby Hill Park has lot and street parking, and the lawn opens before the set.
