Unlike the two other CO150 picks this month, "True Grit" earns its slot on the most literal count: it was actually shot in Colorado. Production built downtown Ridgway, in Ouray County, into the film's fictional Fort Smith, Arkansas, and used the Ouray County Courthouse for the interior trial scenes.
John Wayne won his only competitive Oscar for the role of Rooster Cogburn in this 1969 Western, screening once at MCA Denver's Holiday Theater in the Highland neighborhood.
