The Fourth falls on a Saturday and Denver responds with 260 juried artists in Cherry Creek, Jaume Plensa's first U.S. retrospective at the Botanic Gardens, and costumed strangeness at Meow Wolf, July 3-5, 2026.
1. Cherry Creek Arts Festival
The biggest juried art festival in the state costs nothing to walk into. 260 artists from around the world set up in Cherry Creek North for all three days, and every booth is the person who made the thing. Free, Friday through Sunday. Use the garages; the street-parking safari has no winners.
2. Jaume Plensa: A New Humanism at Denver Botanic Gardens
Jaume Plensa's monumental heads have anchored plazas from Chicago to Barcelona, and his first U.S. retrospective is sitting in the Botanic Gardens right now. The sculptures are placed across the outdoor gardens, so you see them the way they are meant to be seen: in weather, at scale. Included with garden admission through September 7. Go at 9 AM or after 6 PM in this heat.
3. Phenomenomaly: Live Performances at Meow Wolf Denver
Convergence Station added live, costumed performers to the permanent chaos, which means the art now talks back. Phenomenomaly runs Wednesday through Sunday inside the installation, included with any regular ticket through August 9. Select 21+ nights add secret after-hours sets. It is exactly as strange as it sounds, which is the point.
4. People + Produce Farmers Market: Thornton
Thursday evenings at Carpenter Park: Colorado farms, local makers, prepared food, and live music, 5 to 8 PM, free to attend. A farmers market that runs on a weeknight evening instead of a weekend morning is a small act of mercy.
5. Celestia: Immersive Light and Music at Saint John's Cathedral
Projection mapping usually happens in warehouses. Celestia maps a 360-degree light show onto the actual Gothic Revival interior of Saint John's Cathedral, nightly at 7:30 PM, from $29. Weekend shows add a live eight-voice choir, which is the version to see.
6. FIFA World Cup Watch Parties at McGregor Square
The World Cup is on a 66-foot screen a block from Union Station, free, every match day through the July 19 final. The 35-tap self-pour wall handles the rest. Arrive early for marquee matches; the square fills fast and holds its crowd.
7. Changing Landscapes: Inside Venice, Mesa Verde and Rapa Nui at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science
The Museum of Nature & Science built photogrammetry projections of Venice, Mesa Verde and Rapa Nui, three World Heritage sites climate change is actively rewriting. Included with museum admission, through January 3. Sobering and gorgeous in equal measure.
8. People + Produce Farmers Market: Belleview Station
The Sunday market at Belleview Station: Colorado farms, local makers, and a reason to be outside in the DTC, 9 AM to 1 PM, free. Go before the heat and leave with vegetables you did not plan on.
9. Colorado Renaissance Festival
A permanent 16th-century village sits in the Larkspur pines and staffs itself with jousters every summer weekend through August 2. Turkey legs the size of a forearm, real armor, zero irony. It is 45 minutes south and worth the drive exactly once a year, which is why it has run for five decades.
10. City Park Jazz: Free Sunday Concerts
City Park Jazz turns 40 this summer, one bandshell fire later and still free. Sundays 6 to 8 PM on Ferril Lake, ten weeks running. Bring a blanket, a picnic, and cash for the paleta cart. This is the best free habit in Denver.
11. Film on the Rocks at Red Rocks
Movies under the monoliths: Sinners, Little Miss Sunshine, Bridesmaids, and Jurassic Park this season, each with a live pre-show. $25 general admission, which is the cheapest ticket Red Rocks sells all year. The amphitheater at dusk does half the work.
