Filipino Friday Night: Lyn A. Buti, T'Boli Tradition Bearer

Arts
When
Fri, Oct 30 · 6 PM
Where
Aurora History Museum, Aurora
Price
Included with museum admission ($5 adults, $1 children); free for members

Lyn A. Buti is a T'Boli tradition bearer, and for one evening she brings the dance, dress and oral history of an Indigenous community from the southern Philippines to Aurora. That specificity is the reason to go: the T'Boli are a minority people of Mindanao, and the museum has them explained by one of their own practitioners rather than folded into a general Filipino heritage program. The museum's own listing says Buti covers T'Boli history, dance, clothing and adornment, and ceremonial practice, through storytelling and demonstration rather than a slide talk.

The program runs Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Aurora History Museum, 15051 E Alameda Pkwy, as part of the museum's Filipino Friday Night programming. It is a single occurrence, not a run, and the museum's regular open hours are Tuesday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., so a Friday night is time the building is not otherwise open to walk-in visitors.
