Thu, Sep 17 · 6 PM - 9 PM
Where
Museo de las Americas, Denver
Price

Opening night is the only night this show is a party, and Museo is not charging for it. Karla de Lara, a painter, sculptor, muralist, and poet born in Guadalajara, brings two decades of mixed media work to Santa Fe Drive under the title Identidad, memoria y palabra, or Identity, memory and word. She has shown in close to 40 countries and painted one of Latin America's largest murals at Expo Guadalajara in 2017.

The exhibition is not a wall of paintings. De Lara works across prints, notebooks, texts and letters, sculpture, and objects pulled from childhood, arranging them so the personal record and the collective one sit in the same room. The reception is when the artist's framing of that material is freshest and the galleries are still uncrowded.

Admission is free, with live music, drinks, and light appetizers. Museo sits at 861 Santa Fe Drive in the middle of the Art District on Santa Fe, so a September Thursday puts several neighboring galleries within a short walk. Street parking on Santa Fe tightens after 6 PM; the side streets west of the strip are the reliable option.
