Denver's small-theater scene keeps testing how close it can put an audience to the action, and Morwood Manor pushes that to the literal dinner table: a handful of ticket holders sit inside one surrealist, psychologically disorienting family gathering, loosely inspired by Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived in the Castle.

The original piece is devised and performed by a six-person Denver ensemble (Jade Diamond, Mitchell Ackerman, Nicole Caron, Hang Nguyen, Soleil Kohl and Prith Khalsa) and co-directed by Kohl and Nguyen, with live violin accompaniment from Caroline Krantz or Kiera Tomlinson depending on the night. It runs October 15-18 at Merritt Wellness, a converted church at 2246 Irving St normally used for yoga and wellness classes, with tickets running $30-$40 through Humanitix.

Several of the original showtimes sold out, which is why there are now two performances on both Saturday and Sunday instead of one; organizers describe remaining seats as limited given the dinner-table format, and direct interested latecomers to a waitlist.
