Free Things To Do in Denver This Weekend: October 16-18, 2026

The Denver Wiesn opens a Munich-style Oktoberfest at the National Western Center with nothing charged at the gate, the Arvada Center's two 50th anniversary gallery shows are still free and still hanging, and Stanley Marketplace runs three free markets across two days, October 16-18, 2026.

Free Things To Do in Denver This Weekend: October 16-18, 2026

1. Oktoberfest: The Denver Wiesn at National Western Center

Free general admission to an Oktoberfest is rarer than it ought to be, and the Bavarian Guild is giving away the gate for two straight weekends. Friday the opening ceremony goes at 5:30 and then the Polkanauts and the Schuhplattler dancers take over, Saturday brings stein hoisting and Da Polka Guy spinning actual vinyl before Tropical Kaoba, and Sunday puts the Alpen Auerhahn dancers on in daylight and the Colorado Symphony on at night. Hours are 1 to 9 PM daily at 5185 National Western Drive in Elyria-Swansea. The entrance is free. The beer is still beer-priced.

2. pARTy and Rigsby Revisited: The Arvada Center Turns 50

Two free shows under one roof, and the better of the pair is the one nobody writes about. pARTy gives the Main Gallery to 18 artists for the Center's 50th anniversary, while Rigsby Revisited rehangs the Upper Gallery with work from the first solo exhibition the Center ever mounted, back in 1977. Free, through November 8, at 6901 Wadsworth Boulevard in Arvada. Gallery hours run narrower than theater hours, so confirm before you commit to the drive.

3. 40 West Gallery Member Showcase (First Friday Opening)

The crowded night already happened, which is the entire pitch. The biannual Member Showcase opened on First Friday and stays up at The HUB at 40 West Arts, 6501 West Colfax Avenue in Lakewood, through November 1, so this is the weekend you can stand in front of a piece without somebody's elbow in your ribs. Free, run by the 40 West Arts District nonprofit, and the names on the walls belong to district members who live out here. The 5 to 9 PM window was a First Friday thing, so check posted hours for a regular Saturday.

4. Haunted Harvest Art Market

Local makers selling fall and Halloween goods, Friday from 5 to 9 PM inside Stanley Marketplace at 2501 Dallas Street in Aurora. Free to walk in, free to park on site. It picks up where Stanley's own Fall Festival leaves off the same day, so one trip to Aurora covers two events and one parking spot.

5. Stanley Marketplace Fall Festival

Pumpkin picking, a costume contest and a maker market, free to attend, Friday during the day at Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. Free to attend is not the same as free: the pumpkins, the food and the maker stalls are each priced on their own, so bring a card and a realistic number in your head. Stanley sits off Dallas Street near the Aurora line with a large free lot, and the Haunted Harvest market takes the same building at 5 PM.

6. Mercury Cafe on Tour

The Mercury Cafe is a longtime Denver dance hall known for its swing nights, and this weekend the program travels to Aurora. Saturday from 3 to 6 PM at Stanley Marketplace, 2501 Dallas Street, with live jazz and swing dancing, free parking on site. No band and no cost are posted on the venue listing, so treat it as a drop-in social dance rather than a ticketed concert. Three hours is enough time to watch from the wall for one song and then get talked onto the floor.

7. Monster Bash + Mystical Makers Market

A costume bash and a maker market in the same afternoon at Aspen Grove, noon to 5 PM Saturday, 7301 South Santa Fe Drive in Littleton. Aspen Grove tags it COMMUNITY on its own calendar and has posted no admission cost, no maker list and no costume contest details, so check the event page before you build the whole Saturday around it. South metro, which for anyone below Hampden is the rare Saturday that does not cost you a highway.

8. Old School Cool Vintage Market

Secondhand sellers fill Aurora's converted hangar with vintage fashion, furniture and vinyl, Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM at Stanley Marketplace, 2501 Dallas Street. Free to enter, free to park, and entirely indoors, which in the back half of October is worth more than it sounds. Get there at 10 if you want the furniture. The vinyl people will already be there.

9. Westy Fest 2026

Westminster puts eight hours on the board, noon to 8 PM Saturday at City Park, 10455 Sheridan Boulevard. No admission price is listed on the city calendar as of early October, so confirm before you plan around the word free. An afternoon-into-evening run in one location is the schedule that lets you show up late and still get the whole festival, which is the only kind of festival math that ever works out.

Quick answers

What is happening in Denver this weekend, October 16-18, 2026?
Friday is Aurora's day and the Oktoberfest opener: Stanley Marketplace runs its free Fall Festival during the day and the Haunted Harvest Art Market from 5 to 9 PM, while the Denver Wiesn opens at the National Western Center with a 5:30 ceremony and runs 1 to 9 PM. Saturday is the fullest day, with the Old School Cool Vintage Market at Stanley from 10 to 4, Monster Bash and the Mystical Makers Market at Aspen Grove from noon to 5, Westy Fest at Westminster's City Park from noon to 8, Mercury Cafe on Tour at Stanley from 3 to 6, and stein hoisting at the Wiesn. Sunday belongs to the Wiesn again, where the Alpen Auerhahn dancers go on in daylight and the Colorado Symphony plays at night, plus the free galleries in Arvada and Lakewood.
What free things are there to do in Denver this weekend?
All nine picks in this edition are free to get into: the Denver Wiesn at the National Western Center all three days, 1 to 9 PM; pARTy and Rigsby Revisited at the Arvada Center; the 40 West Gallery Member Showcase at The HUB in Lakewood; and at Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, the Fall Festival and Haunted Harvest Art Market on Friday, the Old School Cool Vintage Market from 10 to 4 and Mercury Cafe on Tour from 3 to 6 on Saturday. Monster Bash and the Mystical Makers Market at Aspen Grove runs noon to 5 Saturday and Westy Fest runs noon to 8 at City Park in Westminster, though neither has an admission price posted on its official listing, so verify those two. Free entry still means paying per pumpkin, per pour and per maker stall, and the three galleries are the picks that cost nothing at all.
