This is the east metro's Thanksgiving-weekend run, and it is run by the City of Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department itself rather than a race company putting a turkey logo on a flat 5K. The course is the draw: it mixes hills, sidewalk and natural trail around Aurora Reservoir, and the city says it is built for a range of fitness levels, so a competitive pace and a walk both fit the field.

The start is Saturday, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m. at Aurora Reservoir, 5800 Powhaton Road, Aurora. Registration is $44 general and $35 for Aurora residents, and it covers entrance to the reservoir for the day, which is normally a separate gate fee for anyone driving in. The city also lists volunteer spots through its Samaritan volunteer platform for people who would rather work the course than run it.

The one deadline worth watching: the city guarantees a race-day T-shirt only to the first 60 people who register by Friday, Oct. 30. Register after that and the shirt is not promised, so the shirt, not the race, is what sells out first here. The city publishes no distance or age-group breakdown for the course.
